National Tchaikovsky's Birthplace Museum

The museum is located in Votkinsk, which is the town where great composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born and where he spent early years of his childhood. The museum was founded in April of 1940 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the composer’s birth. Tchaikovsky's Birthplace Museum is an architectural ensemble which includes 16 buildings among which is the house where he was born, the park area, the summer house, the coach-house, the servants house, the warehouse, the stable etc. Tchaikovsky's farther was a mine engineer of Kamsko-Votkinsk mine district works for 11 years since 1837 till 1848. All this time the family lived in a spacious light two-storey house with mezzanine that was designed by architect Petenkin. The house is situated on the bank of the Votkinsky Pond which was constructed to supply Votkinsk steel factory with water. It is one of the most beautiful artificial pools in the Ural. On the other bank of the pond right opposite the house there is Blagoveswchensky Cathedral where Tchaikovsky was baptized. The appearance of the house, inner interior and the look of the adjoining territory were recreated in decorations typical of the era to illustrate the atmosphere that gave birth to the genius of Tchaikovsky. In the Museum you can visit breath-taking theater excursions and music concerts you will never forget. You can also attend fascinating lectures and unique exhibitions and take part in a lovely discussion as well as get carried away in a whirlwind of a folk festival. By the way, the factory that used to produce anchors and steam-boats when Tchaikovsky’s father was in charge of it is engaged these days in the production of strategy missiles «Topol M».

The museum is open to public all days during a week except Monday. Visiting hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
